Fantasy Week In Review, June 7 – 13
June 15th, 2010
Let’s get right into it. Here are the fantasy studs, players who have me concerned and the potential pickups from the week of June 7th – 13th.
Fantasy Studs
Josh Hamilton – .370/4/13/.433. Very quietly Hamilton is having a very good season. He’s fourth in HR’s (15) and fifth in RBI (47).
Jonny Gomes – .273/2/11. Gomes is finally getting his chance to play every day and is making the most out of it.
Carlos Pena – .333/6/9. Pena hit six home runs in six games last week. Perhaps last week was the week that Pena turned around his season.
Adam Dunn – .455/4/7. Not only is Dunn hitting home runs this year, but he is hitting for average as well. Dunn is currently hitting .289.
Gaby Sanchez – .409/3/7. Sanchez is doing his best to hold off Logan Morrison in Florida. Sanchez is a sleeper Rookie of the Year candidate if he has a strong second half.
Jason Hammel – 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and nine K’s in 15.1 IP. Hammel might have pitched his best game against the Toronto Blue Jays last week. Hammel has his highest K/9 at 7.2 this season.
Dan Haren – 2-0 with a 3.29 ERA and 14 K’s in 13.2 IP. Haren had a nice rebound week last week. For a while there, he was really struggling. He will get tested this week against the Boston Red Sox.
Ubaldo Jimenez – 2-0 with 3.46 ERA and 14 K’s in 13 IP. You know you are having a dominant season when people question your 3.46 ERA in a week.
Brian Fuentes – Three saves with a 0.00 ERA and four K’s in three IP. I watched Fuentes nail down a save on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers with my heart in my throat. I could only imagine how Mike Scioscia feels.
Brian Wilson – Three saves with a 0.00 ERA and three K’s in three IP. Wilson is having himself another solid season. 12.7 K’s/9, 17 saves, and a 2.28 ERA through 27.2 IP.
Reasons for Concern
Jacoby Ellsbury – Ellsbury will be out another two weeks with his rib injury and could be out until the All Star break. If this injury lingers throughout the season, 2010 could be a lost year for Ellsbury.
Chad Qualls – It looks Qualls is going to lose his closer job in Arizona and it’s about time. I would say Qualls is the worst closer in baseball right now. If he is on your team, you should drop him immediately and if you keep him, then just forfeit the season.
Potential Pickups
Pedro Alvarez – It looks Alvarez could be called up this week by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has been red hot in Triple-A as of late, so pick him up now, especially if you are in a keeper league.
Chris Carter – The New York Mets have six games in AL ballparks and Carter will be the DH throughout the week. Over his last three games, Carter is 3-for-9 with a home run.
Aaron Heilman – Heilman could get the first shot to replace Qualls in Arizona. He should be picked up as a third tier closer.
Carlos Santana – Santana was called up last Friday and will be the starting catcher for the Cleveland Indians moving forward. It also helps that he will be batting third for the Tribe.
