Oakland A’s Sign First Round Pick Sonny Gray
July 25th, 2011
The Oakland A’s are hoping that Sonny Gray’s career ends better than Sonny Red’s or Sonny Black’s or any of the Sonny’s who were in Donnie Brasco.
The A’s signed Gray, who they took with the 18th pick in this year’s June Draft according to Baseball America. The former Vanderbilt Commodore received a $1.54 million signing bonus, which is a smidgen above slot.
The debatable six-foot Gray was 12-3 with a 2.12 ERA in 18 starts for Vanderbilt, striking out 124 and walking 46 in 119 innings pitched. The right-handed pitcher throws between 92-94 mph and features a hard curve along with a work in progress change up.
