Milwaukee Brewers Zack Greinke Steals A Base

August 30th, 2011

Zack Greinke has been doing it all for the Milwaukee Brewers lately.

He’s undefeated at home, he’s 6-1 with a 2.61 ERA over his past seven starts, and he’s even helping out on offense by stealing bases. In Sunday’s 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs, Greinke stole a second base in the bottom of the fifth inning.

It was Greinke’s first SB this season and of his career. Greinke now joins the Philadelphia Phillies Cliff Lee and Los Angeles Dodgers Ted Lilly as other pitchers who have stolen a base this season.

However, Greinke has a long way to go before he’s the next Greg Maddux. Since 1980, Maddux has more stolen bases than any pitcher in baseball with 11. Maddux had 11 SB’s and was caught only 3 times. Not only was he the best pitcher I ever saw, but he was also the best fielder, and the Vince Coleman of pitchers.

Not too shabby. Here are the pitchers who have the most career steals since 1980. Shockingly Rich Garces and Sid Fernandez are not on this list.
