Carlos Carrasco To Have Tommy John Surgery
September 6th, 2011
As first reported by Nick Camino via Twitter, Cleveland Indians RHP Carlos Carrasco will undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the remainder of the season. With this type of surgery so late into to the baseball season, there’s a very strong possibility that we won’t see Carrasco again on a major league mound until 2013.
This is a significant loss for the Indians as Carrasco was showing some signs of becoming a solid middle of the rotation starting pitcher. Carrasco finishes the 2011 season with a 4.62 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 6.1 K/9 in 124.2 innings pitched. A lot of those numbers come from his atrocious second half in which he had a 6.08 ERA and walked 12 in 23.2 IP.
His best start of the season came on June 7 against the Minnesota Twins. He allowed just three hits, struck out six, walked one, and didn’t allow a run in 8.1 innings. The Indians won that game 1-0.
Carrasco will have the surgery in New York.
