Looking Back On Some Baseball Bets

October 12th, 2011

Now that the regular season is over, let’s look back at some of the preseason bets I made (I didn’t actually lay wood on these, just more for fun). I do these every year. In 2009, I was right on 64% of these and last year, I sh^t the bed at 48%.

Hopefully this year was better.

Player bets

1. Nick Markakis: Over/under 14 1/2 HR’s – Over (W)

2. Adrian Gonzalez: Over/under 36 HR’s – Under (W)

3. David Ortiz: Over/Under 30 HR’s – Under (W)

4. John Danks: Over/Under 15 Wins – Under (W)

5. Jonny Gomes: Over/Under 67 1/2 RBI – Under (W)

6. Carlos Gonzalez: Over/Under .310 BA – Over (L)

7. Josh Johnson: Over/Under 15 Wins – Over (L)

8. Billy Butler: Over/Under 18 1/2 HR’s – Over (W)

9. Ryan Braun: Over/Under 27 1/2 HR’s – Over (W)

10. Jose Reyes: Over/Under 33 1/2 SB’s – Over (W)

11. Robinson Cano: Over/Under .314 BA – Over (L)

12. Cliff Lee: Over/Under 18 Wins – Under (W)

13. Will Venable: Over/Under 22 1/2 SB’s – Over (W)

14. Manny Ramirez: Over/Under 59 1/2 RBI – Over (L)

15. Ryan Zimmerman: Over/Under 90 1/2 RBI – Over (L)

Team bets

16. Chicago White Sox: Over/Under 85 1/2 Wins – Over (L)

17. Florida Marlins: Over/Under 82 Wins – Over (L)

18. New York Mets: Over/Under 77 Wins – Under (Push)

19. Oakland A’s: Over/Under 83 1/2 Wins – Over (L)

20. Philadelphia Phillies: Over/Under 96 1/2 Wins – Under (L)

21. Tampa Bay Rays: Over/Under 84 1/2 Wins – Over (W)

22. Kansas City Royals: Over/Under 68 1/2 Wins – Under (L)

23. San Diego Padres: Over/Under 75 1/2 Wins – Over (L)

24. Cincinnati Reds: Over/Under 85 Wins – Over (L)

25. Houston Astros: Over/Under 71 1/2 Wins – Over (L)

48% again. I really got killed in the team over/under category. I thought the White Sox, over 85 1/2 was a lock and so was the Royals, under 68 1/2.

My advice, listen to me when it comes to the player bets (20-for-32 the last two years), but don’t listen to a word I say when it comes to team bets. I am a disgrace.
