New York Mets Will Make Changes To Citi Field
October 22nd, 2011
Feeling the pressure from a fan base that has grown dischanted with a team that has failed to generate a consistent offense over the year, the New York Mets will make some changes to the dimensions to Citi Field in hopes that the changes will help the offense generate more runs.
Here are the changes as per Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com:
- The 16-foot wall in left field will remain because it is structural, but a new 8-foot wall will be erected in front of it.
- In right field, where the “Mo’s Zone” nook currently exists, the fencing will be moved closer to eradicate that crevice.
- A dramatic change will occur in right-center, which had measured 415 feet from home plate. The new depth is expected to be 390 feet — a 25-foot reduction.
I don’t think anyone can fault the Mets for doing this. It’s much easier and probably more cost effective to change dimensions than to find players who would ideally fit in this stadium. A player like Jose Reyes is the perfect fit for this ballpark, but finding nine of him is not an easy task.
Plus, the Mets aren’t the first team to do something like this. The Detroit Tigers moved their left field fence in before the 2003 season because fans and players complained the stadium was to big.
I for one am curious to see how the new dimensions look and play in 2012.
