Roy Oswalt Now Willing To Accept One-Year Deal

December 20th, 2011

Roy Oswalt, who had a 3.69 ERA, 6.0 K/9, and a 45.1 Ground Ball Percentage with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2011, is now telling teams he will accept a one-year deal according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN. If I was a GM in need of a pitcher, I would jump on him like I jump on the buffalo chicken mac n’ cheese at S’MAC in the East Village.

Look, I know Oswalt isn’t the Oswalt of 2004 anymore, but look at the landscape of No. 3 and 4 starters in baseball. There are some teams trolling out some pretty bad starting pitchers. If you are a team like the New York Yankees, who would you pick to win one game in October? A.J. Burnett, Phil Hughes, Ivan Nova, or Oswalt? I would pick Oswalt in a cocaine addict’s heartbeat.

For one-year and $12 million, I’ll take my chances with Oswalt and go from there. Teams like the Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, or Yankees should be all over Oswalt.

My guess is he ends up with the Nationals, but the better fit would be the Red Sox.
