New York Mets versus Chicago Cubs 12th September 2017
Fantasy preview of the New York Mets versus Chicago Cubs series starting 12th September @ Cubs.
The Cubs come into play first in the National League Central while the Mets are fourth and out of the playoff picture in the National League East.
The Cubs feature a powerful attack with six players over 20 home runs. The one question is whether the Mets can keep the Cubs under control to avoid a sweep.
- Tuesday’s game features Jacob DeGrom for the Mets versus Jose Quintana for the Cubs. DeGrom gives the Mets their best chance at victory, entering at 14-9 with a 3.65 ERA. He’s struck out 211 in 182 2/3 innings. Quintana has won 3 of his last 4 but is only 9-11 with a mediocre 4.32 ERA for the season.
- In the middle game of the series, Matt Harvey tries to improve upon a 5-4 record with a 5.82 ERA for the Mets. The Cubs send Jon Lester to the hill with a record of 10-7 with a 4.35 ERA. He’s struck out 164 but allowed 23 home runs.
- The Mets send Seth Lugo to the mound in the series finale on Thursday against John Lackey for the Cubs. Lugo enters with a 6-4 record and 4.64, while Lackey is 11-11 with a 4.65 ERA. Lackey is 6-1 over his last seven decisions but has allowed 33 home runs this season.
Offensively, the Cubs hold a big advantage. Matt Rizzo lead the team in home runs and RBI, with 31 and 102, respectively. Kris Bryant has also been a big threat, batting .288 with 25 home runs. Kyle Schwarber, Wilson Contreras, Ian Happ and Javier Baez have all added over 20 home runs.
The Mets have a few big bats the Cubs must be careful with. Michael Conforto has a .939 OPS on 27 home runs. Yoenis Cespedes is batting .292 with 17 home runs and an .892 OPS, while Wilmer Flores has gone deep 18 times with a .271 average.
Cut to the Chase Prediction:
My money tip is that The Cubs at home have way too much firepower for the Mets and should take two-of-three and perhaps a sweep if they catch DeGrom on an off day.
NB: the statistics are for games through Friday, September 8.
