In this match up of two National League Central division foes, the fourth place Pirates take on the last place Reds.
The Pirates appear to have the edge on the mound, while the Reds have a more potent offense with two players over 30 home runs this season.
- On the mound for the Pirates on Friday is Trevor Williams. He will be opposed by Homer Bailey for the Reds. Williams comes in at 6-8 with a 4.26 ERA and has allowed only 12 home runs in 139 1/3 innings. Bailey has a record of 4-8 with a very high ERA of 7.26. He’s allowed 96 hits and 35 walks in 74 1/3 innings.
- Saturday’s game features Chad Kuhl for the Pirates versus Sal Ramano for the Reds. Kuhl has been mediocre this season, going 7-10 with a 4.21 ERA and 2-3 over his last five decisions. Ramano is 4-6 for the season with a mediocre 4.54 ERA.
- In the series final on Sunday, Ivan Nova faces off against Robert Stephenson. Nova is 11-13 with a 4.25 ERA. He’s allowed 190 hits and 28 home runs, but has walked only 30. Stephenson has struggled to a 5.45 ERA and has given up 11 home runs and issued 46 walks in 67 1/3 innings.
Offensively, the Reds have a clear advantage. Joey Votto leads the team with 34 home runs and a .314 average. The other big bomber is Adam Duvall, who gone deep 31 times. Zack Cozart is one to watch with 20 home runs and a .304 average. Other REds with over 20 home runs are Scooter Gennett, Scott Schebler and Eusenio Suarez.
The Pirates main threat offensively is Andrew McCutchen, who is batting .275 with 24 home runs and 77 RBI. Josh Bell also has 24 home runs, while Josh Harrison is solid with a .272 average and 16 home runs.

Although the Pirates have the edge on the mound in all three games, the Reds are at home and have enough offensive to avoid a sweep. Look for the Pirates to win the series, two games to one.
