Pittsburgh Pirates versus Milwaukee Brewers 11th September 2017
Fantasy preview of the Pittsburgh Pirates versus Milwaukee Brewers series starting 11th September @ Brewers.
In this National League Central match up, the fourth place Pirates take on the second place Brewers.
In another series two relatively even teams, the Brewers certainly have more firepower offensively, which is likely to be the key to the series.
- On the mound in Monday’s opener is Gerrit Cole for the Pirates versus Brandon Woodruff for the Brewers. Cole is 11-9 but has allowed 27 home runs this season, contributing to a mediocre 3.93 ERA. Woodruff has appeared in only four games, logged 20 2/3 inning and is 1-1 with a 1.52 ERA.
- The middle game of the series is James Taillon for the Pirates and Matt Garza for the Brewers. Taillon is 7-6 with a 4.78 ERA and only 1-4 over the last nine starts. Garza has been even worse, coming in at 6-9 with a 5.06 ERA and 0-3 over his last four games.
- In Wednesday’s series finale features Trevor Williams for the Pirates against Jimmy Nelson for the Brewers. Williams is 6-8 with a 4.26 ERA and has struggled lately, just 1-4 over the last five. Nelson has been solid, coming in at 12-6 with a 3.49 ERA and 199 strikeouts in 175 2/3 innings.
The Pirates top producer at the plate is Andrew McCutchen, hitting .275 with 23 home runs and 75 RBI. Josh Harrison has added 16 home runs with a .272 average, while Josh Bell leads the team in home runs and RBI with 24 and 83, respectively.
The Brewers have two players pushing the 30 home run plateau. Travis Shaw has gone deep 28 times with 75 RBI and a .275 average. Eric Thames has also hit 28 long balls, while Domingo Santana has been consistent with 24 home runs and a .275 average.
Cut to the Chase Prediction:
My betting tip is for the Pirates to take Monday’s opener, with the Brewers rebounding to take the next two games and the series.
NB: that the statistics are through Friday, September 8
