San Diego Padres versus Colorado Rockies series starting 15th September @ Rockies.

In this National League West battle, the fourth place Padres visit the third place Rockies. With nothing to play for but pride, the Padres will try to spoil the playoffs hopes for Colorado. The pitching match ups are fairly even, but the Rockies hold a huge edge offensively, likely to make the difference in the series.

Let’s get you a winning pick for your sports betting or fantasy league below.

  • On Friday, Clayton Richard is on the mound for the Padres versus Tyler Chatwood for the Rockies. Richard is 7-13 with a 4.78 ERA and has surrendered a staggering 218 hits in 179 innings. Chatwood has also struggled, coming in with a 7-12 record, 4.70 ERA and 72 walks in 130 innings.
  • Saturday’s game is a huge advantage for the Rockies with Kyle Freeland on the hill against Jordan Lyle. Freeland is 11-10 with a 4.03 ERA, while Lyle has a high 6.75 ERA and hasn’t keep the ball in the park, allowing 12 home runs in only 56 innings.
  • The series finale features the best pitching match up, as Jhoulys Chacin takes on Jon Gray. Chacin is 12-10 with a 4.06 ERA, while Gray is 8-4 with a 3.55 ERA. It’s worth noting that Gray struck out 10 in a win over the Diamondbacks in his last start.

Offensively, the Rockies have a powerful attack, lead by two MVP candidates, Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado. Blackmon is batting .336 with 34 home runs, while Arenado has 33 home runs and 123 RBI, while hitting .309. Add in Mark Reynolds with his 29 home runs and DJ LeMahieu at .316 and the Padres will have their work cut out for them.

Cut to the Chase Prediction

The Padres top offensive force is Wil Myers with 27 home runs and 19 stolen bases. Hunter Renfroe has added 20 home runs, while Manuel Margot has been relatively solid with a .268 average.

The Rockies most certainly will win the series and i would not be surprised to see a weekend sweep.

NB that all stats are through games played Tuesday, September 12.
